There is never a good time for a bad breakout! But have you noticed that acne breakouts always seem to happen at the worst times? Think school picture day, a job interview, or a date! Fear not, we have some tips to make your stress-induced breakouts disappear.
Did you know: Certain essential oils are natural health products (NHP), traditionally used to nourish acne-prone skin?
Here are some of our favorite essential oils for acne, plus tips to help you say goodbye to blemishes! Add these acne-fighting essential oils and tips to your skincare routine and be well on your way to reclaiming clear skin!
Whether you’re breaking out or not, add 1-2 drops of an essential oil for acne to your daily face wash to refresh and soothe your skin! Or instead, add the same amount of essential oil to your daytime face lotion and apply. Carrot Seed essential oil is a great choice!
Be sure to avoid the extra sensitive areas around your eyes!
Carrot Seed Essential Oil
Known for its illuminating and nourishing properties, Carrot Seed will get you glowing! This essential oil provides moisture and relief for acne-prone skin, while improving and evening out skin tone.
Add a toning facial spritz to your skincare routine! Fill a 4 oz bottle with witch hazel and add ½ teaspoon of vitamin E oil. Then add 6 drops of an essential oil like Cedarwood to the bottle, shake to mix and spray!
Cedarwood Essential Oil
Aside from its warm, woodsy aroma, Cedarwood has a long history of tackling oily skin. It also has moisturizing properties which smooth and nourish all skin types, and helps maintain the appearance of youthful, healthy skin!
Tip 3: Try a Spot Treatment
Mix 1 drop of Bergamot with 15 ml of carrier oil (we like V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex*). Dip a cotton ball in the solution and apply directly to blemishes after you wash your face. Leave on overnight for best results!
*Note: Contains sweet almond oil and may cause a reaction to those with nut allergies.
Bergamot Essential Oil
Bergamot* balances oily skin to treat frequent breakouts. Bergamot has a light, citrusy scent that is both uplifting and relaxing—and it has the same soothing effect on your skin!
*Note: Citrus oils like Bergamot can increase sun sensitivity when applied topically. Avoid direct sunlight or wash your face before heading outside!
Arguably, the only thing worse than a breakout on your face is a breakout on your body! Tackle body acne by adding 6-8 drops of an essential oil for acne, such as German Chamomile, to your bath.
German Chamomile Essential Oil
As the name suggests, German Chamomile is calming. Many acne remedies tackle blemishes by drying out the skin, stripping it of natural oils—taking breakouts from bad to worse! German Chamomile does the opposite. It relieves breakouts by soothing the skin instead.
Tip 5: Make Your Own Roll-On
Be prepared for when those stubborn recurring blemishes pop up! Mix 4 drops of Cedarwood, 4 drops of Myrtle, and 2 drops of Bergamot. Then add to a 10 ml glass roller bottle and top off with carrier oil like V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex! Apply directly to blemishes as needed.
Myrtle Essential Oil
Myrtle essential oil treats and reduces the symptoms of breakouts like redness and irritation. At the same time, it can enhance the overall appearance of healthy-looking skin.
